“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards”.
The One We Fell In Love With is a relaxed, heartfelt read, with an unusual twist. The page-turner follows three identical twins who all develop feelings for the boy next-door, Angus. One ends up engaged to Angus, one ends up living with him, while one has to hide her feelings.
Each sister is completely different, so it’s easy to distinguish, as they each share their point of view. Eliza has ambitions to be a musician and still lives at home with her mum. Rose is more reserved, and has moved away from home to live in London. While Phoebe is one living the triplet dream; she’s engaged to Angus.
The book is separated into two sections, almost a before and after. It’ll take you a little while to discover, but it’s definitely something you won’t see coming.
Personally, I love books which you can take something away from and learn something from the characters or apply to it your own life. So I was apprehensive to read The One We Fell In Love With from initial impressions. Yes, it’s an easy read and there’s not many opportunities to reflect on your own life, but through Paige Toon’s characters I definitely think she showed you should go with your heart and what you feel is right and will make you happy, rather than worrying too much about what others will think of your actions.
Rating: for what I feel this book wished to achieve, I loved it! 4/5
